DIY Treatment for Grief + Loss with Cypress Oil
In Chinese Medicine, Lungs hold and process loss, grief and sadness. To the degree our Lung qi remains clear and resourced, we are more able to process these emotions. Cypress is an essential oil that has affinity with the Lung, Spleen and Kidney meridians and can assist the Lungs when experiencing new or old energies relating to loss, grief or sadness.
For use, breathe in a few deep inhales and exhales of the cypress essential oil. after opening the bottle. Relax the body. Apply a small amount to the acupuncture point Lung 3 Tian Fu “Palace of Heaven” and/or Lung 7 Lie Que “Broken Sequence” and rest.
Essential oils are not meant to be “salt and pepper shakers.” A little goes a long, long way. Some apply oils to acupuncture points with a toothpick. Do everyday for 100 days for an intentional, alchemical process over time or simply apply as you need it.
Another tool is creating a 3-part “pause practice” by pausing whatever you’re doing, taking 3 deep inhales and exhales while relaxing the body and combining these steps with the sensory experience of smelling the cypress oil. You can put 10-15 drops in an essential oil nasal inhaler and carry in your pocket or purse or smell straight from the bottle.
